The Genius of Earl Scruggs with Bill Evans

June 8 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Want to know what makes Earl so special and why the Earl Scruggs Center honors his music and legacy?  In this presentation designed for both banjo players and the rest of us, award-winning performer & author Bill Evans will demonstrate Earl Scruggs’ many contributions to bluegrass music and the banjo in an informative and entertaining format combining video and audio of historic Earl performances. Bill will show how Earl’s three-finger right-hand technique catapulted the banjo to the forefront of bluegrass and popular music, setting the stage for all of those who came later to create music using Earl’s techniques. Hear the elements of Earl’s signature style, from his unique ability to capture melodies, to providing the perfect accompaniment to other musicians, to composing the most enduring tunes on the five-string banjo. For the banjo players who attend, Bill will hold a special session after the public workshop where we’ll all get out our banjos and pick through tablature examples.
