DON GIBSON

Don worked in a textile mill and held various jobs before going on the road. He joined with Chet Atkins to add drums, upright bass and piano to the traditional country sound to create what has become known as the Nashville Sound. He became a famous singer-songwriter with hits including “Sweet Dreams”, “Oh, Lonesome Me”, and “I Can’t Stop Loving You” which has been recorded by more than 700 artists. He released more than 80 songs that made the charts between 1956 and 1980. He is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame and the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.
Don Gibson died November 17, 2003 in Nashville, TN and is buried in Sunset Cemetery in Shelby, NC
