Earl Scruggs Homeplace Open House

Wednesday, December 17 | 1:00–2:00 PM
2208 Riverside Rd., Shelby, NC 28152
Join us for an open house at the Earl Scruggs Homeplace, the house where Earl and his family lived from 1932 until 1942. This is the home where a young Earl first began playing the banjo in the innovative three-finger style that would later become known worldwide as Scruggs Style.
Come see the ongoing rehabilitation work and learn about the materials, techniques, and vision guiding this important preservation project. Discover how the Scruggs family lived and explore the place that helped shape one of America’s most influential musicians.
Please note: This is an active outdoor worksite. We recommend wearing close-toed shoes and dressing for cold weather. Due to the ongoing rehabilitation, tours will be limited to small groups of 4–6 people at a time. There are no restrooms onsite, but a portajon will be available.
Parking is available in the gravel lot beside the home. The property is located approximately half a mile from the Broad River Greenway on Riverside Road.
