Join Joe Kendrick, producer of the podcast Southern Songs and Stories and director of programming at WNCW 88.7,  as he leads attendees through a discovery of the origins of music from the South and Appalachia,  which draws from European, African, and Native American traditions and instruments. This course covers periods in history from the 1800’s to the present day. Learners will get an overview of the many forms of music associated with the region: Blues, Jazz, Bluegrass and more. This class includes many excerpts from Kendrick’s interviews with numerous music artists, writers, and music professionals as well as key songs from many genres and eras.
