About Hubby Jenkins:

Hubby Jenkins is a talented multi-instrumentalist who endeavors to share his love and knowledge of old-time American music. Born and raised in Brooklyn he delved into his Southern roots, following the thread of African American history that wove itself through country blues, ragtime, fiddle and banjo, and traditional jazz. Hubby got his higher musical education started as a busker. He developed his guitar and vocal craft on the sidewalks and subway platforms of New York City, performing material by those venerable artists whose work he was quickly absorbing. An ambitiously itinerant musician, he took his show on the road, playing the streets, coffee shops, bars, and house parties of cities around the country.

After years of busking around the U.S and making a name for himself, Hubby became acquainted with the Carolina Chocolate Drops. From 2010 to 2014 he has been an integral part of the Grammy award winning Carolina Chocolate Drops. Since 2015, he is an active touring and recording member of the Rhiannon Giddens band. He was on her album “Tomorrow Is My Turn” in 2015 and in 2017 “Freedom Highway.” And around these projects Hubby continues to make solo performances.

About the Down Hill Strugglers:

If you love acoustic folk music, bluegrass and early string band music then you would really like The Down Hill Strugglers. They perform their song list from the songs that were created before bluegrass was originated;- BBM (before Bill Monroe). The Down Hill Strugglers mine their song list from early ’78 rpm records, with a mix of string band songs from folk, country and blues, i.e. the early Appalachian music.

The Down Hill Strugglers is an old time string band based simultaneously out of Kentucky and New York. They have released albums on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings and Jalopy Records and are featured on the soundtrack to the Coen Brothers film, “Inside Llewyn Davis” produced by T-Bone Burnett. The Down Hill Strugglers band formed while hanging out at the home of their mutual friend Peter Stampfel of the Holy Modal Rounders, where they also met bandmate and mentor John Cohen of the New Lost City Ramblers.

By carrying the music of the old rural America forward The Down Hill Strugglers are extending the legacy of the New Lost City Ramblers by bringing archaic sounds into the present, and challenge audiences reject a dystopian future animated by disco beats and their ilk.

The Greek legend of Sisyphus is: “Sisyphus (/ˈsɪsɪfəs/;[1] Greek: Σίσυφος, Sísyphos) was a king of Ephyra (now known as Corinth) punished for chronic deceitfulness by being compelled to roll an immense boulder up a hill, only to watch it roll back down, and to repeat this action forever.” The Down Hill Strugglers are the opposite, desperately struggling to keep a huge boulder from rolling down a hill.
