The Earl Scruggs Center is kicking off the 2025 Coffee with the Curator season with an exciting program at the Spangler Library in Lawndale, NC on January 30th. Join Earl Scruggs Center Assistant Director Zach Dressel and special presenter Theresa Lowe for an exploration of the interesting history behind the legendary Piedmont School that operated in Lawndale for nearly 100 years beginning in the late 19th century. Lowe will be offering a presentation that will guide the audience through Piedmont’s amazing story from a small Sunday School to a full boarding school before finally becoming part of the public school system until its closure in 1976. Dressel will present artifacts from the Cleveland County Historical Collection that are connected with the school’s past. The program will be given at the Spangler Library that was first built in 1910 as a library for the Piedmont School. The program will begin at 10am and coffee will be served.
