The Turning Road
The Turning Road explores continuity and change throughout the region. People had to adapt to the changing times from the destruction of the boll weevil to the decline of the textile mills. The civil rights movement brought new social awareness for the equal rights of all Americans and the new electric music style brought diversity to the music genres. Themes include, Earl’s expanding music tastes, Flatt & Scruggs parting ways and The Earl Scruggs Revue. The Earl Effect film expresses Earl’s effects on music and the world. Other themes include Local Voices and Innovation and Change. Banjo Breakdown a hands on exhibit provides the opportunity to examine the three primary styles of banjo playing.
