As is our tradition, the run will begin with a banjo tribute to Earl Scruggs and additional entertainment at the 5K and 10K split, in the reception area of the Don Gibson Theatre following the run and throughout the course. Run, stroll, walk or walk your dog and join us for the biggest year yet!

It’s a fantastic way to kick off the race as runners take off across the starting line! Arrive and sign in by 8:00 a.m. All banjo players that are signed in will receive a complimentary Earl Scruggs Center admission that will be valid for up to a year. (not to mention have a heck of a good time!)
Win $250 for Your School
Students in elementary through high school are encouraged to come out and bring their friends. The school with the highest number of students participating in this event will be awarded a trophy and a $250 gift to their school’s PTO to be used as determined by the PTO. The numbers from both the 5K and 10K will be added together to determine the total count per school and one award will be given based on that total. The winning school will be recognized during the awards ceremony. Jefferson Elementary School won in 2015…will your school win in 2016
Route
Live music with a banjo tribute will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will kick off the race at 8:30 a.m. Both the 5K and 10K runs will start and finish at the Don Gibson Theatre located at 318 South Washington Street in historic Uptown Shelby. The certified course takes you through Uptown Shelby and around the historic 1907 courthouse on the beautiful court square–home of the Earl Scruggs Center. The course then passes historic homes on tree-lined streets and features live music at the 5K/10K split and at various points throughout the course and then returns through Uptown Shelby to cross the finish line back at the Don Gibson Theatre with live music and refreshments in the reception area.
Photos will be taken throughout the course and at the awards ceremony and will be posted through Earl Scruggs Center social media channels. The awards ceremony will be held after the 10K concludes and results are compiled. Participation awards will be given to all youth (12 and under).
